Biography

As a speed skater, Bob Wyman was a British champion and record holder and he used his speed to good advantage when he turned to hockey. He played in the English League for Richmond Hawks, Harringay Greyhounds and Streatham, and in the first post-war season he was with Wembley Lions. Wyman, who was one of only two members of the 1936 Olympic team who learned the game in England, only played in the game against Japan at the Olympics before joining the BBC radio commentary team that brought listeners news of Britain’s memorable victory at Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Wyman worked in the motor trade in London and during the war served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy.
