Biography

During the 1980s Slovak biathlete Peter Zelinka represented Czechoslovakia and competed at two Olympic Games. Zelinka finished sixth in the 10 kilometres sprint at the 1980 Lake Placid Games, the best result by a male Slovak biathlete at the Olympics until Marek Matiaško finished fifth in the 20km event at the 2006 Torino Games. Zelinka also competed in the 20km and the relay events in Lake Placid, finishing 22nd and 11th, respectively. Four years later he had another sixth-place finish, this time in the 4 × 7.5 kilometres relay at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. After his retirement from the sport Zelinka coached both the men’s and women’s national teams.
