Biography
Playing his entire career for Hammarby IF, Sigge Öberg was one of Sweden’s top players in both ice hockey and bandy. With his club, he won the Swedish title four times (1932, 1933, 1936 and 1937), while finishing runner-up on five occasions. With the Swedish national team, Öberg’s top performance came at the 1928 Olympics, when Sweden placed second behind the unapproachable Canadians. This tournament also counted as the World Championships and European Championships, which Sweden won. At age 42, Öberg was found dead in the Hammarby canal in Stockholm.
