Biography

Sabine Völker was a successful German speed skater winning four Olympic medals crowned by the team pursuit gold at Torino in 2006 although she did not take part in the final but only in the preliminaries. Four years earlier at Salt Lake City she earned two silvers over 1,000 and 1,500 metres and one bronze over 500 metres. Völker also won silver at the 1998 World Sprint Championships, adding two bronzes in 1999 and 2005. She won silver medals at the World Championships over 1,000 metres in 2001 and 500 metres in 1997, with a 2005 bronze in the team pursuit. During her career Völker also won 10 national titles with 15 runner-ups. She retired in 2006, after studying economics.

Personal Bests: 500 – 37.57 (2002); 1000 – 1:13.96 (2002); 1500 – 1:54.57 (2005); 3000 – 4:10.31 (2006).
