West German flatwater canoeist Herbert Kirschner participated at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics in the C2 1,000 m with Egon Drews. Both were eliminated in the heats. The same year Kirschner won his only national title in the C1 10,000 m. In 1957 he participated in the European Championships (again in the C2).
