Steffen Görmer was a member of the four-man bob Germany I piloted by Harald Czudaj at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics that finished eighth, only 0.31 seconds behind the Swiss silver medal winning team. The same year the bob won the European Championships and the national title.
Görmer started his sports career as a sprinter and track and field athlete and participated in several international meetings. In 1990, he won the last national title in the former GDR (East Germany) over 100 metres. By profession, he became a graduated sports teacher.
