The 1948 show jumping competition took place at Wembley in the main Olympic Stadium. Team and individual jumping events were held concurrently. Humberto Mariles won the individual title and led Mexico to the team gold medal. Only three teams finished the event as the course was very difficult and considered extremely slippery because of recent heavy rains. Jumping competitions were restricted to military officers for the last time at the Olympics, as civilians would be allowed to compete in 1952, but women could not compete in Olympic jumping until 1956.
