Australian Rules Football, usually called simply Aussie Rules, is one of the most popular sports in Australia and was chosen as a demonstration sport in Melbourne. The sport started in the mid-19th century in Melbourne, with the first rules codified in 1859 by the Melbourne Football Club. In 1956, a single demonstration game was played in the main Olympic Stadium on Friday, 7 December, at 1610 (4:10 PM).
