Three traditional Japanese martial arts of sumo, kyudo, and kendo were demonstrated during the 1964 Olympics. Sumo wrestling is an ancient sport in Japan, and is one of the most popular professional sports in Japan, with many associated rituals. The 1964 sumo wrestling demonstration was not strictly a competition but more of an exhibition of the sport. It was contested at the Nippon Budokan, Chiyoda in Tokyo, although we know very little about it.
