Bowling is a very popular sport internationally, played in many countries, but it has only been on the Olympic Program as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. There was a men’s event and a women’s event, with 12 competitors in each class. The bowling competition was held at the Seoul Royal Bowling Center, and was contested by amateurs, so the world’s top bowlers were not present. Bowling is governed internationally by the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs (FIQ) and is an IOC Recognized Sport, as well as a member of SportAccord, and the International World Games Association (IWGA).
