The single individual event consisted of an 18 km ski race, with the start and finish in the Olympic Ski Stadium. The 1936 Nordic combined used the results from the open 18 km race, rather than a separate race. This was followed one day later by ski jumping, with all jumpers having two attempts on the Große Olympia-Schanze, both marks to count. There was a separate jumping competition.
