The ski Jumping competition at the 1956 Winter Games was held on the Trampolina Italia (Italia Ski Jump Hill) in Cortina d’Ampezzo which a K-Point of 72 m. These games marked the end of the Norwegian monopoly on this event which had stood since the first Winter Games. A new style of jumping, developed by the Swiss jumper Andreas Däscher, where the arms were thrown back and the hips pushed forward proved an asset to the aerodynamics of the jumper and the final standings were dominated by students of this technique. After six successive victories by the nation’s jumpers the highest ranked Norwegian was only ninth.
