Bicycle Polo at the 1908 Summer Olympics

Bicycle polo, also known as cycle polo, is considered to have been invented in 1891 by R. J. Mecredy who was then editor of the Irish Cyclist. The first Bicycle Polo Association was formed in London in 1901 and the first international match took place at the Crystal Palace in London in 1901 when Ireland beat England 10-2. The next major international encounter was the demonstration event at the 1908 Olympics. The current sport has two different versions, grass and hardcourt cycle polo.
