Polo was contested at the 1900 Olympics, and after 1908, would again be an Olympic sport in 1920, 1924, and 1936, but after 1936 it has never again been on the Olympic Program, even as a demonstration sport. Three teams entered the 1908 Olympic polo event, but all were British, with two club teams representing Roehampton Club and Hurlingham Club in London, and an Irish team also competing. The events were held at the Polo Grounds of the Hurlingham Club in London, located in Fulham, in the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. Hurlingham Club continues to be an active sporting and social club in London, but polo ceased to be held at the club when it was reduced in size after World War II.
