Triathlon was centered around Hyde Park in central London, with the open-water swims held there in The Serpentine, the cycling racing seven laps of a 6+ km course within the park, and the run held within the park confines over four laps of a 2½ km course. There were again two events, individuals for men and women. The women’s race produced one of the closest finishes in triathlon history, as the Swiss Nicola Spirig defeated Sweden’s Lisa Nordén by less than 1/100th of a second. The men’s race was a celebration for the huge British crowds watching it, as the Brownlee brothers, Alistair and Jonathan, won the gold and bronze medals respectively.
