Baseball has often been a demonstration sport at the Olympics, also being demonstrated in 1936, 1956, 1964, 1984, and 1988. In 1992, baseball became an official Olympic sport, and was on the Olympic Programme from 1992-2008, after which it was discontinued, along with softball. There was some impetus when the two sports returned to the Olympic Programme for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, as baseball is one of the most popular sports in Japan. Baseball and softball were not a part of the Paris 2024 Games, but both sports are scheduled to appear at the Los Angeles 2028 Games as full Olympic disciplines.

There were two baseball games played at the 1912 Olympics, although the second one is not as well known, and is often omitted from reports of the 1912 Olympic baseball demonstration.
