The BMX racing competitions took place on August 1–2, 2024, at the BMX Stadium within the Vélodrome National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, located southwest of Paris. This venue, part of a larger cycling complex, was designed to offer spectators an immersive experience, with seating along the first and last straights and new lighting systems enabling evening races.
Paris 2024 introduced significant changes to the BMX racing format, aiming to improve fairness and competitiveness. Unlike previous Olympic Games, where riders remained in fixed heats throughout the rounds, the new format featured reseeding after each run in both the quarterfinals and semifinals to ensure a more balanced competition.
The quarterfinals consisted of three heats of eight riders, each competing in three runs. Riders earned points based on their finishing positions (1 point for first place, 2 for second, etc.), and the 12 riders with the lowest total points advanced directly to the semifinals. A new feature - the Last Chance Race (LCR) - gave the next eight fastest riders a final opportunity to qualify. In this single-run race, the top-four finishers secured the remaining spots in the semifinals.
In the semifinals, two heats of eight riders again competed in three runs, with reseeding after each run. The eight riders with the lowest cumulative points moved on to the final. The competition concluded with a single-run final to determine the medalists.
