Tug-Of-War at the 1920 Summer Olympics

Dates 17 – 20 August 1920
Medal Events 1

This was the Olympic swansong for tug-of-war at the Olympics, after being held in 1900, 1904, 1906, 1908, and 1912. The sport was presumably discontinued because of the many controversies that surrounded it, as there were several inter-national disputes at the earlier Olympics, but the 1920 Olympic tug-of-war event was conducted peacefully. Five teams competed in 1920 with Great Britain winning three matches, by 2-0 (best-of-three matches), to win the gold medal. The sport was conducted on the infield of the Beerschot Stadium, the main Olympic Stadium in 1920.
