Meteor is one of the few horses to have competed at three Olympics, riding under Fritz Thiedemann in show jumping at the 1952, 1956, and 1960 Olympics, winning an individual bronze medal in 1952 and team golds in 1956 and 1960. Meteor was a bay gelding Holsteiner who was by Diskus out of Konkurrentin. Owned by Willi Brandt, Thiedemann rode him from 1951-61.
The pair’s other major victories were the 1958 European championships, Grand Prix titles in Aachen, Berlin, Dortmund, and New York, and the 1954 King George V Gold Cup in London. They took part in 18 Nations Cup events, winning at Aachen in 1955 and 1957, Genève in 1957, and Lucerne in 1958. Meteor retired after the 1961 Aachen show. Meteor died in 1966 and was buried in the grounds of the Reit-und-Fahrschule at Elmshorn, headquarters of the German Holsteiner breed society.
