Motorboating was contested at the Olympics only once, at London 1908. However, its world governing body, the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), founded in 1922, does have International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognition and is a current member of the Association of the IOC-recognized International Sports Federations (ARISF).
Governing all Powerboating activities, the main disciplines of the UIM are Circuit (F1, F2, F500, F4, Formula Future), Offshore (XCAT, Class 1), Pleasure Navigation, Radio-controlled boats, Aquabike (Jet ski), Solar & Electric, and MotoSurf, with the federation organizing several World Championship events.
The UIM has 64 affiliated National Federations as of January 2026. The organization has its headquarters located in Monaco, and its current president is Italy’s Raffaele Chiulli.
