In this unusual tournament, all of the players in the lower half of the draw scratched, leaving the tournament essentially as a series of challenge matches against Dorothy Lambert Chambers. She was more than up to the task. After Agnes Morton defeated Alice Greene in round one, she faced Lambert Chambers, who won three consecutive matches without the loss of a set to win the title.
As Dorothea Douglass, Mrs. Lambert Chambers had won the Wimbledon title in 1903-1904 and 1906. Following her 1907 marriage to Robert Lambert Chambers, she again won Wimbledon in 1910-1911, and 1913-1914, giving her seven titles in all. The runner-up at the 1908 Olympics, Penelope Boothby, would go on to win at Wimbledon in 1909.
