When Dorothy Lambert Chambers scratched in the first round to Märtha Adlerstråhle, this tournament became wide open, with no clear favorite. The eventual winner, Gladys Eastlake-Smith, claimed only one other major title, that also under covered courts, when she won the 1907 British title for women.
