The pala corta event is similar to the paleta cuero, in that a small paddle (or bat) and a leather ball are used for play. Compared to paleta cuero, the bat is smaller and the ball is larger.
The top four nations of the 1990 World Championships qualified for the Olympic demonstrations in Barcelona, with Spanish World Champions Daniel García and Ricardo Garrido eager to add the Olympic title to their tally. García and Garrido played all matches save the final pool game, and won each with relative ease.
