Paleta Cuero, Doubles (frontón 36 metres), Men

In paleta cuero, a small paddle (at most 50 cm long and 13,5 cm wide) is used to hit the ball, which is made of leather (“cuero” is leather in Spanish). This event was played on the 36 metres frontón, but paleta cuero is also contested in the trinquete, a field enclosed by four walls.

The top four nations of the 1990 World Championships qualified for the Olympic demonstrations in Barcelona, and the Spanish World Champions Oscar Insausti and Juan Pablo García were part of the Spanish selection. They weren’t seriously challenged during the tournament, beating eventual finalists Mexico by 35-5 in the round-robin phase. Both Insausti and García would turn professional after their Olympic success.
