There were 29 separate events in the 26th Fête Fédérale de l’Union des Sociétés de Gymnastique de France competitions, which were held during the 1900 Paris International Exposition in the gymnastics category, although not all were gymnastics events, as fencing, boxing, and shooting were all contested. There were 8,050 competitors overall in the 29 different events. This was a shooting event with 83 shooters classified. The event was won by Auguste Gorgeon from the Dole commune in the Jura departement. The second-place finisher was Daniel Mérillon, who was much better known. Mérillon was the “President” of the Organizing Committee for the Olympic and sporting events at the 1900 Paris Exposition, whose title was actually “Délégué général aux Concours d’exercices physiques et de sports.” He later became President of the International Shooting Federation, the Union Internationale de Tir, from 1907-25. Mérillon also competed at the 1908 and 1912 Olympics in shooting, finishing fourth in a team military rifle event at the 1908 London Olympics.
