Hurling, an Irish stick game with some similarities to lacrosse and Gaelic football, was held as an exhibition at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition, alongside the 1904 Olympic Games. Hurling has never been officially on an Olympic Programme and will not feature at the Olympics anytime soon.
Hurling is one of four sports controlled by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), the largest sporting organization in Ireland and highest governing body of the sport. The GAA was founded as the Gaelic Athletic Association for the Preservation and Cultivation of national Pastimes on 1 November 1884, in Thurles, Ireland.
