Korfball is a 100% gender-equal team sport with some similarities to basketball and netball. Demonstration korfball events were held at the Antwerpen 1920 and Amsterdam 1928 Olympic Games. Korfball World Championships have been held since 1978 (with the first edition being staged in the Netherlands), and the sport has been contested at the World Games continuously since 1985.
The International Korfball Federation (IKF) is a recognized federation by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Founded on 11 June 1933 in Antwerp, Belgium, the IKF has 75 members as of January 2026.
