Julia Lautowa was a native of Russia who came to Austria at the age of 12 with her parents and acquired Austrian citizenship in 1996. She married Russian ice dancer Roman Kostomarov, but they divorced just one year later. She subsequently became a coach in New York.
Lautowa represented Austria at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics in the women’s singles as a figure skater and placed 14th. She won six Austrian national titles in 1994, 1997, 2000, and 2002-04. Her best international results were eighth places at the 1997 World Championships and the 1998 and 2004 Europeans.
