José Vicario was one of the favourites for a flyweight medal at the 1972 München Olympics. A few days before his first fight against Ireland´s Neil McLaughlin, however, he was knocked out … by a team-mate. Vicario overheard colleague Norberto Cabrera say something inappropriate to other athletes in the Olympic Village. Vicario confronted Cabrera, who instinctively knocked him out. Vicario never recovered in time for his first bout while, Cabrera also missed his first fight as he was sent home to Buenos Aires by the Argentine Olympic Association. Despite never getting to fulfill his Olympic dream, Vicario still enjoyed the nickname “El Olimpico.”
