Hailing from the Dalmarnock district of Glasgow, Barney McGhee won the 1928 Scottish bantamweight title before going to London’s Albert Hall to contest the ABA Championship. McGhee lost to Jack Garland, and consequently was selected as a reserve to Garland at the Amsterdam Olympics later that year. McGhee turned professional in 1929 but his career lasted less than six months in which he had three fights, with a 1-1-1 record.
