Biography

Rhys Howells was a sergeant in the Glamorgan police force. In addition to winning the Welsh light-heavyweight title, he won the Glamorgan Police title at heavyweight, light-heavy and middleweight on many occasions, and was invincible in the second half of the 1920s and 30s. Despite his successes on home soil, Howells never won an ABA title, but was defeated in two finals. Firstly by a fellow policeman, Jack Elliott, in the 1925 middleweight final and in the light-heavy final two years later by another policeman, Alf Jackson.
