A. J. Miner won the ABA bantamweight title in 1902 and, after stepping up to featherweight, was runner-up to Charley Morris, and Harold Holmes respectively, in 1904 and 1905. Miner won his second ABA title in 1906 when he avenged his 1904 defeat by Morris, but it was Morris who regained the advantage the following year, when he eliminated Miner in the semi-final. An intelligent fighter, Miner was selected for the 1908 London Olympics, but was a non-starter. His brother “W. J.” was also a good standard boxer.
