Representing the 17th Middlesex Rifles, Harold Holmes beat A. J. Miner to win the ABA featherweight title in 1905, three years after first competing in the Championships. In 1906, Holmes was eliminated in the semi-final by Charley Morris and the following year, lost to Morris again, but this time in the final. In 1908, and then a member of the Polytechnic Club, having switched from Columbia BC, Holmes stepped up to lightweight, and carried off the ABA title with a victory over George Jessup. Holmes later worked as a salesman in London’s Central Markets.
