Mamduh Mokhtar Saqr took up football at the age of eight, inspired by his older brother Mahmoud. He honed his skills at Egypt’s elite public schools and eventually joined Al-Ahly, with whom he won the Egypt Cup in 1927, 1928, and 1930, the Cairo League from 1927 through 1929, and the Sultan Hussein Cup in 1927 and 1929. He was also a member of his country’s delegation to the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, where Egypt lost the bronze medal match to Italy, but Mamduh did not see any playing time.
Mamduh transferred to Tersana in 1930, but tragedy struck in May 1931 when he was badly injured by a defender from the Greek Club during a friendly match. In order to save his life, doctors were forced to amputate his leg, which ended his promising career. A football cup was held subsequently to help pay for his medical expenses, and he also received support from the royal family. He was given a wooden leg and later coached football at Ghazl El Mahalla SC, as well as other clubs. His cousin, Abdel-Karim Sakr, took part in two editions of the Olympics in 1936 and 1948.
