Tom Aungier, known as Bob to his team-mates, was one of the five non-travelling Irish Free State (now the Republic of Ireland) reserves for the 1924 Paris Olympics. A goalkeeper, he was second choice behind Paddy O’Reilly.
After progressing through the St James’s Gate second team, Aungier was a member of the squad that won the Irish Free State League and Cup double in the inaugural season of the League in 1921/22. After his playing days Aungier moved into the administrative side of the game and became secretary of the Irish Free State League and chairman of the Irish Free State FA. In 1938 Aungier was elected president of the Irish Football League, a post he held until his resignation in 1949. By profession, Aungier was a clerk at the Guinness brewery, having started working for them at the age of 14.
