Biography

Inside-forward Bobby Cowzer was one of the five non-travelling Irish Free State (now the Republic of Ireland) reserves for the 1924 Paris Olympics. Crowzer started his footballing career with the Dublin club Ormeau FC, founded by his older brother Albert (“Ad”) just before World War I. Ormeau won the 1917 Leinster Junior Shield. After the hostilities Bobby moved to the top Dublin side Shamrock Rovers and played in the inaugural Irish Free State (now the Republic of Ireland) Cup final in 1921/22, only to lose to St. James’s Gate.

Crowzer moved to Shelbourne in 1922 but returned to Shamrock Rovers the following year. He enjoyed a second spell with Shelbourne after the Olympics and in 1924/25 won a second cup runners-up medal when beaten by his former club Shamrock Rovers, who he joined for the third time in 1926. Crowzer died suddenly at the age of 53 while visiting his sister in the Ringsend area of Dublin in 1950.
