Diana Taurasi is one of the greatest champions in basketball, winning multiple titles at every level of competition. At the Olympic Games she uniquely won six gold medals with the United States team, from 2004-2024, which is an Olympic best in a team sport. Only Taurasi, Hungarian fencer Aladár Gerevich, and German dressage rider Isabell Werth have won six Olympic gold medals in the same event, with Werth winning her seventh in team dressage in 2024.
Taurasi played in college at the University of Connecticut, leading them to three NCAA titles in 2002, 2003, and 2004. She was named the Most Outstanding Player at the 2003 and 2004 Final Four. Taurasi was also Naismith College Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004. She also led the United States to the FIBA World Cup title in 2010, 2014, and 2018.
After college Taurasi joined the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA and would play with them for 20 years, retiring after the 2024 season. She helped them win three WNBA titles (2007, 2009, 2014), was named a WNBA All-Star 11 times, and was a 10-time first-team All-WNBA. As of 2025 Taurasi is the all-time leading scorer in WNBA history. She led the WNBA in scoring five times, in 2006 and 2008-2011, and led the league in assists in 2014.
Internationally, Taurasi played in Russia and Turkey. She was with Dynamo Moskva in 2005-06 and then Spartak Moskva from 2006-10, and finally UMMC Ekaterinburg. Taurasi played in Turkey for Fenerbahçe in 2010-11 and Galatasaray in 2011-12. She helped win seven Russian National League championships (2007-2008, 2013-2017), three Russian Cups (2013-14, 2017), and six EuroLeague titles (2007-2010, 2013, and 2016). She also led Fenerbahçe to the Turkish National League title in 2011 and helped win the 2012 Turkish Cup.
