Joanna Hayes was a hurdler who won gold in the 100 metre hurdles at the 2004 Athina Olympics. Hayes competed in college at UCLA, winning the 400 metre hurdles at the 1999 NCAA meet. She also placed third in the 100 hurdles that year.
Hayes was US Junior Champion in the 100 metre hurdles in 1995. She later won the 2003 Pan American Games title over the 400 hurdles. She is one of the few US Olympic Champions in athletics never to win a senior US title. She did win the 2006 Millrose Games in the 60 metre hurdles. Hayes later became a track coach at the University of Southern California (USC).
