German sprinter Till Helmke reached the 200 metres quarter-finals at the 2004 Athens Olympics and was eliminated with the 4x100 metres relay in the heats. At the 2008 Beijing Games the 4x100 metres relay came an unfortunate fourth in the final. Helmke never managed to win a German national title but entered the podium several times (five silver and four bronze medals) and also collected five silver and three bronzes indoors.
After his active career Helmke played volleyball in the German Bundesliga with TG Bornheim. He studied sports management and was employed by the Stiftung Sporthilfe Hessen.
