A 2004 Olympian in the hammer throw, James Parker competed in college at Utah State University. He was a four-time All-American in the indoor 35-pound weight throw (1995, 1999-2001), a four-time All-American in the hammer throw (1995, 1999-2001) and an All-American in the discus (2001), despite taking two years off to serve an LDS Church mission in Brazil.
Parker was a seven-time Big West Conference champion in discus (1995, 1999), hammer throw (1995, 1999-2001), and shot put (1995), and was the Big West’s Male Athlete of the Year in 1995. He twice won the weight throw at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championships (2000-01). His biggest international medal was a silver at the 2003 Pan American Games. Parker was USA Champion in the hammer throw in 2005.
Parker was commissioned in the US Air Force in 2001, leaving the service in 2008. He then returned to school and became a chiropractor, opening the Parker Muscle & Sports Clinic in Kaysville, Utah.
