Right-handed German badminton player Juliane Schenk played at three Olympic Summer Games from 2004 at Athens until 2012 at London. She reached the eighth final in women’s singles at London after winning the group stage and losing to Thai player and #9 seed Ratchanok Intanon by 2-0 sets. In 2004 and 2008, she was eliminated in her first-round matches.
Partnering Nicole Grether, Schenk reached the eighth finals in 2004 but then lost to Danish pair Ann-Lou Jørgensen and Rikke Olsen by 2-1 sets. Schenk had a remarkable career winning international women’s doubles titles as follows: 2002 – Dutch Internationals; 2003 – Mauritius Internationals, Saarbrücken Open, and Irish Open; 2005 – Norwegian Internationals, Norwegian Internationals; 2006 – Dutch Internationals, Austrian Internationals; 2007 – Spanish Open, Turkey Internationals, Norwegian Internationals, Italian Internationals; 2008 – Italian Internationals, Polish Open, Belgian Internationals; 2009 – Norwegian Internationals, Austrian Internationals, Dutch Internationals, Finnish Internationals, Saarbrücken Open; 2010 – Spanish Open, Belgian Internationals, Dutch Internationals, Canada Open; and 2012 – Singapore, and Bitburg Opens.
Schenk won the bronze medal in women’s singles at the 2011 World Championships and reached the quarter finals in 2009. At European Championships, she gained the gold medals with the women’s team in 2012, and with the mixed team in 2013. In 2006, 2008 and 2010, she won bronze medals in women’s team. With the mixed German team, she added a silver medal in 2011 and a bronze medal in 2004. In women’s singles she won silver medals in 2010 and 2012, and bronze medals in 2006 and 2008. In women’s doubles she won silver in 2006 and bronze in 2004. In 2013, she was briefly ranked #2 in the world.
Domestically, Schenk won seven German titles, in women’s singles in 2009-11, and in women’s doubles in 2004-07. On club level she played with Hülser SV Krefeld (until 1998), SC Union 08 Lüdinghausen (1999-2004), and SC Empor Brandenburger Tor Berlin 1952 (2005-13).
