Afanase Sciotnic competed in three Olympic Games as a kayaker, winning a bronze medal in K4 in 1964 and a silver medal in the same event in 1972. Sciotnic was a nine-time medalist at the World Championships, winning four gold medals, two silvers, and three bronze medals. He won the K2-500 and K4-1000 in 1966, the K4-10K in 1971, and the K1-relay in 1974. At the European Championships Sciotnic won 10 medals, including three golds, and in all he won 7 gold medals and 21 medals at major internationals.
