Biography

Ladislav Čepčianský had his greatest success in canoeing at the 1958 World Championships, where he won a silver medal for Czechoslovakia in the K-1 10,000 event, behind Finland’s Thorvald Strömberg. Two years earlier he had been sixth in that event at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where he also placed sixth in the K-1 1000. He also competed at the 1960 Rome Games, where he was eliminated in the semifinals of the K-1 1000 and was disqualified in round one of the 4x500 metres kayak relay, alongside Miroslav Pavelec, Vladimír Špaček, and František Vršovský. Domestically, he won 19 national titles and later worked as a coach and administrator, while also competing in masters’-level tournaments. By career, he was a professor of physical education.
