Ice hockey defenseman Carla MacLeod’s career with the Canadian National Team began in earnest 2004 with gold at the Four Nations Cup. She had previously been a member of the under-22 division and was slated to join the main team a year earlier, but had broken her leg. In 2005 she played at her first World Championship, where the Canadian team won silver, and was soon selected to join the Canadian team at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where she played in five games and took home a gold medal. During this time she skated for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, acting as captain of the team for her final two seasons and being named the USCHO Defensive Player of the Year at the end of 2005. Following her initial Olympic success, she played with the Calgary Oval X-Treme of the Western Women’s Hockey League and won gold at the 2007 World Championships with Team Canada, as well as silver in 2008 and 2009. After earning a second Olympic title in 2010 she retired, along with Becky Kellar, Gina Kingsbury, and Colleen Sostorics, from international hockey. Refusing to lay idle, MacLeod accepted jobs in public relations with the Royal Bank of Canada and assisting coaching with Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta.
