Nancy Purvis competed in canoeing for the Washington Canoe Club. She was a top athlete, also competing in AAU competition in both swimming and track & field. Purvis was intercollegiate canoeing champion in both K-1 and K-2 in 1970 and 1971. She later became a physical education teacher.
