Jack Brosius studied at Catholic University in Washington, and started paddling while a student there in the early 1960s. In 1972 he and Alan Whitney won the North American Championships and won the K-2 1,000 metres at the Olympic Trials. Brosius continued to compete for a few years after the 1972 Olympics, but later became a kayaking coach, primarily for Paralympians and disabled athletes. He worked in engineering for many years. He and his wife MG settled in Chester Harbor, Maryland where Brosius worked as a volunteer for many organizations. Notably, he acted as a “roadie” for Chestertown’s Music in the Park, where he often set up speakers and microphone stands for concerts during the summer.
