Kenneth Carey sailed for Pierpont Davis aboard his boat, the Santa Maria, in the Final Olympic Trials in 1932. They finished 2nd to Owen Churchill’s crew, but Churchill asked the members of Davis’s crew to participate in the Olympics and allowed everybody to sail at least one race. Thus Carey, a member of the California Yacht Club, sailed in the Olympics and won a gold medal. Carey graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1915 with a degree in law and later practiced as a lawyer in California. He was also involved in the administration of boat racing in the state.
