Like Igor Cassina, Andrea Coppolino was coached by Maurizio Allievi and Franco Giorgetti at club S.G. Meda. A rings specialist, Coppolino won an Italian youth title (1996) and six senior titles (2000-03, 2006-07).
Despite a serious injury that excluded him from the 2004 Olympics, Coppolino did well at World Championships winning bronze medals in 2001 and 2003. He also won gold at the 2005 Europeans, bronze in 2006, and silver in 2007.
Coppolino eventually went to the Olympics, at Beijing in 2008, and came close to a medal with a fourth placed finish on the rings, after some controversial judging.
