Bershawn “Batman” Jackson was a 400 metre hurdler who was World Champion in 2005 and won bronze medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2009 World Championships. He was a four-time World Champion in the 4x400 relay, outdoors in 2007, 2009, and 2011 and indoors in 2010. Jackson won five US titles in the 400 hurdles, winning in 2003, 2008-10, and 2015, and won the US Indoor Championships at 400 metres in 2005 and 2010. He was ranked #1 in the world in 2005, 2010, and 2015, and competed at six consecutive World Championships (outdoors) from 2005-15.
As a junior Jackson was US Junior Champion in 2002 in the 400 hurdles, and won a bronze medal at the 2002 World Junior Championships. Jackson attended St. Augustine’s University, where he won the 2004 NCAA D-2 Championship. Jackson later became an athletics coach. He was nicknamed “Batman” as a kid because he had “ears like a bat and was so fast he seemed to fly”.
