Brigadier Callado had an extremely long riding career, beginning in the 1940s – his first Grand Prix win was in Lisbon 1944 – and quitting after a fall breaking four ribs in 1978. He competed in five Olympics (1948 to 1960). Apart from several more wins in the Lisbon Grand Prix, he won nine team competitions with the Portuguese team, including three victories at Madrid. He won the Portuguese title only once in his long career, in 1958.
